Panthers Unveil 2017-2018 Schedule

HOLLAND, MI – West Ottawa wrestling coach Ryan Lancaster has unveiled the team's schedule for the 2017-18 season, highlighted by six home events. The Panthers will look to build off a successful 2017 campaign that saw the squad rack up 277 individual wins. Following up an 18-17 dual record, they also claimed several individual team season records, including most reversals and most 3-point nearfall.
WO will open the season on Dec. 6 in Hesperia, MI with a dual against the Panthers. On Dec. 9, they will match up against a number of teams in a round robin format at the Gene Kraai Memorial in Zeeland, MI. The team will open up its home slate on Dec. 20 in WOHS Aux Gym against Hudsonville before heading back out on the road for a handful of events with duals at Grandville (Jan. 10) and Caledonia (Jan. 31). The historic WO-Grand Haven rivalry continues on Jan. 3 in Holland, as the Panthers will look to finish off the Buccaneers for the first time in several seasons at home. The Panthers will look to make it two-straight Gobles Tiger Dual titles to open the New Year in Gobles, MI., before hosting their ever tough WO Invitational (Jan. 13). They finish up the regular season on the road at Montague (Jan. 27). Local area wrestlers gather together for over a 6 week period to train with West Michigan college wrestlers and coaches. The clinic is put on my the Grand Rapids Summer Knights Wrestling Club, an extension of the Kenowa Hills Wrestling Club. It's purpose is to provide training/competition opportunities to the Grand Rapids area. You can learn for about them HERE. Below is most of the technique that was shown.

Also, this summer junior wrestler Julian Jimenez competed at the highest level of competition for a wrestler, the 2017 USMC/USAW Cadet Greco and Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. For an entire week in July, Julian battled it out with some of the best wrestlers in the country. Each year the pinnacle of high school freestyle and greco roman wrestling in the United States takes place over a week in Fargo. The Junior and Cadet National championships will crown individual national champions in boys and girls freestyle and greco roman wrestling. Many of these all-americans and national champions will go on to greatness at the NCAA level and into the senior level world and Olympic Games. You can watch some of this matches HERE and HERE. |
